I found this book to be very heartwarming, informative, and motivational. Packed with touching stories from her rocky journey in life as she shares advice and guidance on how she was able to take the traumatic obstacles that crossed her life path and use them as a motivator to grow and create positive change in her life.  Get Balanced, Get Blissed is filled with fabulous insight on how to cope, overcome and turn your life around including great advice on nutrition and mediation, which not only help your body get into shape but will make you feel a thousand times better.

Lynne Goldberg’s book, “Get Balanced, Get Blissed,” gave me the insights to understand that we are not alone.  Everyone in life goes through tragic events at some point in their life and there are some people who unfortunately are faced with obstacles every day of their lives.

The trick is how do we cope with these obstacles?

Do we let the negative things that happen to us in life get the best of us and slowly destroy us making us feel angry, saddened, and depressed? Or do we reach out to others with experience in this field to teach us how to accept the negative things that occur in our lives and use them to empower us to make positive changes in our lives that will help us live in the moment and appreciate the life we live and the air we breathe?

One important factor, I learned from this book is that you need to make sure you maintain a healthy connection with your mind, body, and soul.  The reason for this is that you need all three connected in order for your body to operate at full capacity and most important in order to live a happy, healthy, and productive life.

In chapter 1, she opens up and lets you into her world sharing her ups and downs and the pain she endured while struggling to go on with her life while the obstacles she encountered kept trying to run her over.  She discusses the concept of bliss and talks about how to make bliss a part of your own life.

As you enter chapter 2, she discusses nutrition and goes on to explain how what we put into our bodies has a huge impact on the way we feel.  She includes studies and research that show how we could heal our bodies and improve our mental and physical health by incorporating the right foods into our diet.  Goldberg not only discusses how to eat right, but she also shows you how to transform your entire life as the book continues.

As you continue reading, you will find on page 48 she discusses the environment we live in plays a big role in the way we take care of our bodies.  From this chapter, I learned that in order for change to occur we need to become leaders, not followers.  We need to learn to care for our environment because after years of abusing the environment we are experiencing negative outcomes.  It is affecting our health and causing many unnecessary health conditions that we could avoid.  We also need to eat the way some other countries do.  We consume so much processed, toxic foods in such large quantities that our country’s ways of life are slowly killing us.

If people change, teach, and advocate a better way of living then change will occur.  We need to change ourselves first then go out to become an advocate and fight for a better way of living for the people in our country.  Fight for what is right.  If the majority of society changes then the corporate world will have no choice, but to change too.  Corporations and companies only produce when there is a demand for something.  If we change our lifestyle they will have no choice, but to change too because the demand for it will be gone.  I am up for the challenge.  Are you?

While we were vacationing in Italy, Emile Jean Pin, my beloved husband and life partner of nearly 30 years, suffocated before my eyes from a mistreated bee sting. For most of his life, Jean had been one of the most famous Jesuit priests in history. Since his death, he has been coming to me in spirit form.

Unlike Jean, whose life was steeped in religion, Dr. Jamie Turndorf was raised by two Jewish atheists. The only religion they practiced was religiously hating each other! She never went to church or read the Bible. In fact, her parents taught her to not believe in God or the afterlife. Her lack of belief was abruptly shattered after Jean’s death. To ensure that she wouldn’t dismiss the events, his persistent and astonishing manifestations have often occurred in front of witnesses, thereby proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the spirit does, indeed, live on.

The following are but two examples of what is included in the book: For the past thirty years, Dr. Jamie Turndorf has suffered from a metabolic disorder that baffled doctors. When Jean and Jamie first met, she was a size four.

Suddenly, without making any alteration to her eating or exercise habits, she ballooned to three hundred pounds in a couple of months. No matter what exercise or diet regime she tried (including a ten-month green juice fast) nothing worked. When the weight gain occurred in the early eighties, Jean told her that he had a vision of her melting away. She asked him, “When?” He said, “I don’t know.” Right before we left for Italy, he told Jamie that he again had the vision of her melting. Jamie asked him, “When?” This time he said, “Very, very soon.” Soon after his death, Jean came to her in spirit form and said, “I had to go. I needed to be in the form I’m in to help you better.

I finally have the power to fix your metabolic disorder. I’m rebirthing you.” I changed nothing in my habits and in a few months I melted to my former size. Another example. Soon after Jean’s death, Dr. Jamie had to fax a letter to Verizon to remove his name from our phone line. She was told to fax a cover letter along with his death certificate. She had sent many multi-page faxes earlier in the day without a problem. However, each time she tried to fax his death certificate, the cover letter was faxed without a hitch, but the death certificate wouldn’t fax.

She tried to fax his obituary instead. The same thing happened. The cover letter was faxed but the obit didn’t. She tried twenty times. No dice. She said aloud, “I think you’re trying to tell me you’re not gone!. The next day, she took the documents to the lawyer. The same thing happened at his office. The secretaries came out of the back office, crying. They said, “He wants you to know that he’s not gone.” The next day Jamie had to fax the cover letter and his death certificate to another company. The same thing happened. Jamie said aloud, “You keep doing this because I keep forgetting that you’re still here with me. If I promise to remember, will you let the death certificate go through?” Jamie canceled the fax. She suddenly felt a huge wave of love pouring into herself. She dialed the fax again and it went through in its entirety.

 

Since the beginning of time, humans have hoped and prayed that an afterlife exists. Until now, this belief has been based on a leap of faith, rather than a confirmed reality. Our story is proof positive that there is life after life.

Jean has asked her to tell their story, to prove that the spirit lives on, to confirm that relationships do not end in death, and to ease the two most universal and dreaded fears: that of loving and losing and that of death and dying. Whenever Dr. Jamie tells their story, nothing short of miracles occurs. Reactions are generally grouped into two separate camps: There are those who are immensely relieved and comforted to discover the truth. For these people, simply knowing that continued contact is possible readies them to begin their own process of reconnecting.

The other camp experiences a sense of jealousy, despair, hurt, or anger. These people invariably say, “Why is your husband in contact with you? My loved one never comes to me!” In response, She describes the various signs of spirit presence. In a matter of minutes, she is hearing, “That happened to me…and so did that!” For members of this group, becoming aware of the signs is all that is needed to release the deadbolt of ignorance that has sealed the door of their hearts. In no time, they, too, are peering through the peephole, beholding their loved ones once more. Some people have voiced the objection that reconnecting with those who have passed prevents people from “moving on” with their lives. Jean’s answer to this objection is simple. Our hearts are made to love. There is no limit to the number of people we can love, and more than enough room in our hearts to love those who have passed as well as those who walk the earth.

As a result of her experiences with her husband in spirit form, Dr. Jamie Turndorf has discovered that we don’t die and relationships don’t end in death. As a therapist, Dr. Jamie says that the traditional Western approach to grief (grieve, let go, and move on) often leaves the bereaved at an even greater loss.

By contrast, my method guides people to reconnect rather than say goodbye. The bereaved can reconnect to whatever degree they desire. Some may simply wish to reestablish contact in the early stages of loss, to help them work through grief. Those who have lost a loved one to sudden, tragic death have been robbed of the chance to say farewell and, if needed, make amends. These people desperately need to reconnect.

There are other cases in which ongoing connection is desirable as well. Reconnecting is a lifeline, especially for the elderly who may not wish to form another primary attachment.

Likewise, parents who have lost children also desperately need to reconnect and stay connected, as do children who have lost parents. But reconnecting is just the beginning. Dr. Turndorf can’t think of a soul alive who doesn’t harbor resentment toward someone who has died.

Millions of people have been abused or mistreated by a parent or spouse who is no longer living. While traditional Western therapy offers no method for resolving unfinished business with someone who has died, thankfully her method provides a solution for the millions who suffer. Because beings are instantly transformed following bodily death, it now becomes possible to resolve issues that never could have been tackled previously.

This means that it is never too late to heal wounds, resolve resentments, make peace and repair a damaged relationship with someone who has passed over. What’s more, it has been revealed to Dr. Jamie that the departed yearn to make peace with the living, right their wrongs, and shower us with love. As one of my patients rightly said, “I wish my mother would hurry up and die so we can work this out.” Turndorf’s method can best be described as spiritual relationship therapy. Whereas mediums transmit information from those who have crossed over to those on earth in a one-sided communication, her method, by contrast, guides people to make their own direct contact and engage in a two-sided discussion. Learning how to communicate with a spirit being is easier than one might imagine. Dr. Jamie three-part method guides readers to:

  • Create a “State of Receptivity”
  • Recognize the Signs of spirit presence and
  • “Dialogue with the Departed”

1) Creating a “State of Receptivity” includes stilling the mind and breathing. Spirit is born on the breath.

2) Next cultivate awareness by outlining the often-overlooked signs of spirit presence in our lives. Simply becoming aware of the signs of spirit presence is generally sufficient to initiate reconnection. Most people are astounded to discover that their loved ones have been offering signs of their presence all along, patiently waiting for them to open the door of their hearts.

Have you ever forgotten to grieve?

Award-winning artist Lisa Sniderman (aka Aoede) has battled dermatomyositis (DM) – a rare chronic illness, a progressive muscle weakness autoimmune disease – for more than 12 years. During that time, she obsessively created albums, musicals, films, a memoir which she adapted to an audiobook – all to express her emotions and to heal. But throughout the whole process, she forgot to grieve.

Lisa discovered that she focused more on her physical well-being than her emotional and spiritual health. They write with precision, conviction, respect, thoughtfulness, and care with one goal which is to help others.

Their book is also shaped by their personal experience and knowledge— I, for one, am charmed by Dr. LuLu Shimek and Adora Winquist’s book).

They put so much valuable, well-organized information in this book.  This was not a book that was thrown together. I have had many of those types of books sent to me.  This book was well-thought-out and planned with the ability to help change lives.

In 2015, the Health Organizations International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) categorized processed meat as equivalent to cigarettes and asbestos in terms of cancer risk.

Dr. Axe devotes a whole chapter in chapter 5, which provides excellent information, which entails the worst food for your gut.  I found the information in this chapter extremely valuable and effective.

Eating well is not only necessary for well-being, but it is vital for each individual to eat well and live a healthy lifestyle so they can function well.

Sadly, most people do not eat well because of the various responsibilities that they have to do.

With looming deadlines and hard tasks that need to be accomplished immediately, people tend to always be on the go or their just too tired to prepare a healthy meal and put their health on the line as they increase their risk of developing illnesses, diseases, and even the possibility of death.

You can live life around supportive friends and family, individuals who are there for you no matter how busy their lives may be.  You feel their love and you receive their ongoing support, however, living life with an illness can feel  like a “life of  loneliness.”

Despite all the support, all the love you may receive’ life with limitations, pain, and suffering can be very draining and depressing.  Many people with illnesses walk around hiding the pain they feel inside both emotionally and physically.

Many hide their pain with the false grinning faces that they wear on a daily basis.  Including myself.  And when at last you find someone to whom you feel you can pour out your soul, you stop in shock at the words you utter.  They are so rustic, so ugly, so meaningless, and feeble from being kept inside your small dark soul.  These are the ones you created inside yourself.  In a space in your heart where the painful emotions have lingered for so long.

Yes, there is joy, love, laughter fulfillment, and companionship in your life– however, the dreary emotions that have built up inside your soul for so long have caused you to experience the pain and loneliness caused by your illness.  It’s become horrible and overpowering.

I know because I battle with the invisible illness known as epilepsy.  On the outside, I look so normal.  No one would ever expect that I battle a chronic illness that has taken over my body and over time has begun to emotionally destroy me on the inside.

Battling depression with an illness

Depression is a condition that can slowly make its way into your life, especially when a chronic illness begins to take over causing you to have to stop doing what you love and live life with limitations.  Limitations can help you physically, but emotionally the depression secretly makes its way into your soul because you are unable to become the person you once dreamed of becoming.

Your pathway of life has changed and your dreams are niched. So what now?

So how do you overcome the depressed feelings inside?  What do you do?  Some days you want to move on and change your life for the better and other days you feel like just giving up because of the emotional pain you’re feeling on the inside. Your illness is draining you.

Overcoming depression with an illness

Honestly, I’ll be the first to admit life has not been a bowl of cherries.  But it was back in the 1990s when they couldn’t find a drug to control my seizures.  They sent me to a trial group to try medications that were still in the research and were getting ready to be approved by the FDA.  At this point in my life, I was tired.  Tired of taking seizures. I was frustrated with the cards I was dealt with and angry that I had no control.  That my illness controlled me.

That day I walked into the waiting room with the other patients like myself, who were hoping to find that miracle drug that would control their seizures and make them live a life that was normal in their eyes.

There were patients that were strapped down because their seizures were so traumatic that they needed to be held down so they wouldn’t hurt themselves.  Patients that had 90 to over 100 seizures daily. People who had brain damage and others who could barely talk.

It was then that I realized that the cards that I was dealt with weren’t so bad after all.  They were others much worse than me.  Yes, I developed epilepsy at the age of five through a virus known as encephalitis that had traveled throughout my brain and life has definitely been a rollercoaster, to say the least, however, they are others who have it a lot worse than me.

At that moment the light bulb turned on and after working years on myself I concluded:

Denial and acceptance

Our illness is not going to go away.  It is a part of us.  You need to accept that it is a part of you.  Once you come to terms with your illness you will start to see the anger you have built inside you for so long start to disappear.

Love yourself

For so long I hated who I was, but as you know hate destroys.  Once I learned to love myself my life changed for the better.  I focused on my positive qualities.  It was then that I stopped thinking about what I couldn’t do and started paying attention to the things in life that I could do.  I put all my energy into my positive qualities and created a life that would make me happy based on the things I could do.

Self-Esteem

I slowly began to feel good about myself.  I realized over time that everyone has something in life.  No one is perfect.  We all have obstacles to overcome.  You are not alone.  Everyone has something in life.  There is no need to feel like you’re on the bottom of the totem pole.  Everyone has something special about themselves.  Take some time to figure out what makes you special then use those special qualities about yourself to help others.  There is no better feeling in the world than helping someone else in life.  It will make you feel better as a person and it will improve your self-esteem.

Overcome the loneliness

I have so many people in my life who would listen to me when I need to share my pain, however, it is very difficult to open up and let others know the pain that we carry inside our hearts.  Not letting others know how you feel inside can cause you to feel lonely and depressed.  The best way to overcome this is to open up to others experiencing the same situation that can relate to you and what you are going through dealing with your invisible illness.  You’re not alone.

Tip #1: Go into a forum or chat group anonymously and share what you’re going through.  You’ll see that there are millions of people going through the same thoughts and emotions.  Sharing your emotions will make you feel better.  However, the trick to overcoming your loneliness and depression is to move forward and overcome these negative emotions.

You can’t control your illness, but you can control how you deal with your illness.

Tip#2: Create a journal with short and long-term goals.  Think positive.

Waking up each day not knowing what to expect can be frustrating and depressing. Even living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t guarantee a better life. However, in order to survive and overcome the depression, you feel inside, you must learn to fight back.

The Bottom Line

“That we cannot change the past.  We can only focus on the present and create positive changes to improve our future.”  You never know what the next day will bring.  Make the best of your life by appreciating what you have, not what you don’t have in life.
